Natural Anti Aging Oils

As we age, our natural oil production decreases, creating dry skin that, over time, is less resilient to the constant stretching of our muscles, resulting in wrinkles.

Most commercial  anti aging creams contains the smallest amount of good oils (usually at the bottom of the ingredients list) mixed with chemical fragrances and other toxic ingredients. Seen the expiry date on these products? Of course not because they are met to last a HUGE 33 months or more on the shelf. You wouldn’t eat something that old, so why put it on your skin?

Here’s a list of oils we use at Waterroots and what we recommend to fight ageing skin.

Apricot Kernel Oil – is rich in vitamin A & E, Omega 6 & linolenic acid. It has a non greasy fell and the vitamins found in this oil encourage cell regeneration and collagen productions to help reduce wrinkles.

Try it in:

8 tips for a better looking skin

1. Wash your  face twice daily

Chemical based cleansers such as those that use SLS and other harsh cleansers will leave your skin dry and looking dull.

  • Avoid harsh cleansers
  • Can’t understand the ingredients avoid it all together
  • Avoid alcohol based cleansers

Try our Bergamot Milk Cleanser for a gentle wash.

2. Drink more water

Our bodies are made up of 70% water and your skin is one of the first things that will show you are dehydrated. Your wrinkles are more noticeable and your skin is less able repair itself.

3. Moisturize wisely and daily

know your skin type ( dry, mixed, sensitive, oily)

It seems simple but by knowing your skin type will enable you to select a facial cream that is fit for your skin. Most companies like us, at Waterroots, design their products to respond to the needs of customers. We select active ingredients to moisturize and treat different skin types. Some creams are very moisturizing (for dry skin) others are very light (for oily skin).

4. cleanse before bed

Remove make up before bed! This is very important because the skin regenerates itself during sleep and it needs to be free from pore blocking make up to do a proper job.

5. Use a booster before bed

The word “booster” says it all. They are packed with active ingredients to assist your skin regenerate without interruption during the night. Try our Australian Botanica Night Booster serum (only at the market)!

  • Eat lots of fatty acid rich food like fish that contains lots of Omega 3 & 6
  • Eat lots of nuts, they are rich in minerals like magnesium, potassium etc..

7. Mask it

A good facial will draw out impurities beneath the top layer of the epidermis leaving your skin clean and looking great. Want to know about masking click clay mask. Here’s a link to a DIY anti acne mask. Try our Honey Clay Mask.

8. Protect your assets

I am always surprised when people hesitate to spend $30 on organic skin products but won’t hesitate to spend $80 on a skirt for example. I think the most convincing facts about your skin is right in front of us. You only got one right? And guess what? You are stuck with it for the rest of your LIFE! So start by protecting it from the sun. Sun exposure is linked to brown spots, wrinkles and leathery skin. Protect your skin daily with a daily face cream that has sun protection. Try our Beeswax Face Cream with Zinc.

Organic Clay Mask

One of the questions I often get asked about is how to use our Honey & Clay Mask or any mask for that matter.  Facial masks are one of my favorite products, not only because they deliver excellent  results in one application but they also are associated with a feeling of relaxation. The best thing about our clay mask is that you can have the spa experience without the price tag that usually comes with it.

A good facial mask can draw out impurities that hide beneath the top layers of the epidermis. They are often recommended to remove black heads & treat acne. Clay masks are so good at removing toxins from your skin that they are often associated with a skin detox.

Clay masks are great for people with oily skin because the absorbent power of clay removes the excess oil and helps improve the appearance of your pores. They are also great for moisturizing and revitalizing the skin, which is why we also recommend it to people with dry to mixed skin types.haney-clay-mask

The real question is how often should you use it? Well, it all depends on your skin type. But one thing that experts all agree on is that a good mask will leave you with a feeling of tightened and toned skin after a single use.

Here’s a recommendation guide for weekly usage depending on your skin type and skin concerns.

Oily Skin

Once Daily
At the end of the day
Remove make up and cleanse skin
5 to 15 minutes mask application

Mixed to dry skin

Once to 3 times a week
At the end of the day
Remove Make up
10 to 15 minutes application
We recommend using a serum or a night cream afterwards to get an extra lush skin in the morning.

Acne prone skin

Three to 4 times a week
At the end of the day
Plus spot application when needed

Waterroots Honey Clay mask contains Tea Trea wich is recommended to treat acne.

Is your skin care toxic?

Your moisturizers not only hydrates your skin but could they also be the causes of your declining health?

On a daily ritual we spread all sorts of moisturizer and body creams that guarantee eternal youth on all over our bodies without paying attention to the very ingredients they contain. Why? Well most body creams/ moisturizers contains at least 15 ingredients and those can be hard to understand. We also trust the companies we buy from … or should we?

Unfortunately, the beauty industry in Australia is not regulated as well as in Europe and being a highly profitable industry it attracts all kind of businesses but mostly the big corporation that will do anything to make a big buck and convince you that their products are amazing when really they are not. Its astonishing what a good marketing campaign can do these days! McDonald anyone?

Skin Care

Here’s a simple list of ingredients you should avoid at all cost.

  • Any ingredients containing paraben in their wording are linked to cancer here’s a few..Cancer head

Use mainly as a preservative and contains formaldehyde that can cause allergies, asthma.

  • Triclosan

Use as anti fungal and anti bacterial. Can cause allergies and asthma and as been link to environmental issues including developmental defects, liver toxicity, endocrine disruption, abnormal cellular function, impaired reproductive hormone activity and cell signaling in the brain as well as antibiotic resistance

  • Petrolatum

Petrolatum is mineral oil jelly (i.e. petroleum jelly). Studies suggest that exposure to PAHs — including skin contact over extended periods of time — is associated with cancer. see david susuki’s blog.

Here’s more ingredients you should avoid.

  • Cyclomethicone
  • Cyclotetrasiloxane D4/ D5
  • Butyl hydroxyanisole BHA
  • P-phenylenediamine PPD
  • P-aminoaniline
  • Paraphenylen
  • Para-diaminobenzene
  • Diethyl Phltalates DEP

But mainly I would stay away of any commercial brands that are found at your local PHARMACIES and probably look at your natural health shop or online if you are savy. Or check out WaterRoots for your organic skin and hair care products.
