I use Calendula oil in many natural skin product I make, but I mainly use it for Water Roots Baby Calendula Shampoo and Body Wash.

Calendula as many great properties but its exceptionally good for the skin. Calendula is beneficial in the treatment of nappy rash and cradle cap in babies, and sore cracked nipples in nursing mothers.

What you will need..

  • Dry organic calendula (from the Santos or natural health shop)
  • 1 jar
  • Carrier Oil (I use Apricot Kernel Oil but you can use something else even olive oil would do)

Leave it 4 weeks in a dark place to infused, than strain the plant matter from it with a cloth, cheese clothe. Extract as much oil as possible and store in a jar in a dark place and use when needed.

IMG_0956

Today I will be sharing a home made bath salt recipe with Epsom Salt. Thanks to my massage therapist who gave me her “doctor orders”  to have 1 bath a day with Epsom salt and to take it easy.

Is there anything else better than a hot bath during these cold winter months anyway!

Why Epsom salt?

Epsom salt have a range of attributed health benefits and are usually recommended as a natural option to help with pain, soothe muscles and stress relief.

  • Epsom Salts contains the naturally occurring minerals of magnesium and sulfate. Sulfate is essential for many biological processes, helping to flush toxins and helping form proteins in joints, brain tissue.
  • Epsom salt is widely reported to soften skin
  • Magnesium and sulfates can be ingested from foods or mineral supplements, but both substances are readily absorbed through the skin (source)

What you will need

  • 25 gr Lavender flower (optional)
  • 50 gr Epsom Salt
  • 6 gr almond oil ( I like infuse lavender oil here)
  • 1 gr Petit grain Essential oil
  • 5 gr Lavender Essential oil

Organic Toothpaste Recipe

Today getting back to nature has never been more complicated or expensive. There are several options of natural product, organic skin care or hair product on the market and its getting harder and harder to recognize the truthful company from the false claimer that are just there to make a few more bucks on the back of the new trend of going green.

You will found several options for natural toothpaste at your local chemist but these option are often very expensive and sometimes I wonder really how much of the good stuff goes in to the actual end product!

Therefore, I decided to share with you a simple natural toothpaste recipe. Everyone can make this, its easy, natural, free of chemicals or preservative and it works wonderfully.

You will need the following ingredients

voila    IMG_0949  !

Here some information about the ingredients in this recipe..

Glycerine can be synthetic or natural and serve as a humectant. In toothpaste it coat the teeth.

Peppermint here is used as a natural flavouring.

Tea Tree Oil is  used for his antibacterial property, it’s a powerful natural disinfectant.

Baking Soda or sodium bicarbonate, is used has a gentle abrasive that helps remove stain and whiten teeth. (see the wise geek)

After testing it for a week here’s my comments.

  • Its not sweet like the toothpaste you buy but its not unpleasant
  • The peppermint essential oil leave my mouth feeling fresh and clean
  • Does not foam like the commercial counterparts

This recipe is inexpensive and only takes 5 minutes to make.

Enjoy!
